Welcome to Mosaic Rocks!
Natural Stone Tesserae for Mosaic Artists

Whether you are classically inclined or more of a modernist type, stone has been a material of choice for mosaic artists throughout the centuries. We search the world for traditional and unique materials that are just begging to be put into a mosaic. We hand-pick and individually photograph most of the items on this site so that you know exactly what you are getting.

We are also the publishers of the internationally acclaimed Mosaic Art NOW annual and the Mosaic Yearbook CDs. Check out our Books & CDs section for all of our titles.

There is nothing more beautiful than the beauty of natural stones, gems, minerals, and crystals. Cut and nip them to place in your mosaic and you are exposing colors and textures that are millions of years in the making.

Rock on!!!!!

Thin and Loose!!!

Working with marble just got a little easier. We now offer 16 colors of thin stone tiles in 1/2 and 1-pound bags. They are all loose and ready to be nipped & placed in a mosaic. No mesh to deal with!!!

These tiles are all 3/16" thick - less than the standard 3/8" thick marble tiles - which makes them easier to cut and gives you greater coverage. More tiles per pound will cover more space - a better value for your money.

I love working with these tiles and have created mosaics with them over the last year. You can use the flat, tumbled surface or nip them and use the inside raw surface. The raw color is generally a richer tone than the brushed surface color. Now that we have more color options available in the thin stones, the possibilities are endless. And soaking tiles off mesh this is one step I am more than happy to give up.

So check out the newest additions to our family. We also posted some more information about these tiles along with photos of mosaics made with them in the Working with Stone section of the website.
